Yuru CampΔ Movie or Eiga Yurukyan△ (映画 ゆるキャン△; Traditional Chinese: 《電影版 搖曳露營△》), also known as Laid-Back Camp The Movie or just Laid-Back Camp: Movie, is an animated film by animation studio C-Station with production by DeNA Contents Planning Department and film distribution by Shochiku.

Production

In October 2018, a Yuru Camp△ Secret Society Blanket Enrollment Briefing event announced plans for a second season, a movie, and an anime short-form mini-series called Heya Camp△, but not much other detail was released.

On April 1, 2021 (Ena Saitō's seiyuu, Rie Takahashi insists it is not an April Fools' Joke), crew and production details, a planned 2022 release, and some concept art were revealed for the previously announced movie. The announcement also featured the phrase "2022 National Road Show" (2022年全国ロードショー) which was not clarified.

On January 6, 2022, the official website announced that one-shot promotional images would start being released along with a first teaser commercial.

On March 3, 2022, the movie was announced to have an expected premiere date of July 1, 2022. Based on visuals released through March 2022, the movie portrays the characters' lives after high school.

On March 24, 2022, the official website announced that special premiere movie cards with special benefits would be released on April 1, 2022.

On May 10, 2022, the official website announced that Animate stores would be selling advance tickets with goods for the movie. The goods will include acrylic plates using movie poster visuals.

Release

The movie had a special preview screening on June 19, 2022 at Shinjuku Piccadilly theater in Tokyo, but had a Japan-wide premiere on July 1, 2022 as planned.

In late August 2022, it was announced that the movie had passed ¥1 billion in ticket sales.

Chinese distributor Medialink will begin screening the film in Hong Kong on October 6, 2022 and posted a Chinese subtitled trailer on YouTube on August 30, 2022.

On October 24, 2022, the official site reported that the movie will be available on Amazon Prime Video (Japan-only, it seems) for unlimited viewing starting November 4, 2022.

On October 27, 2022, Crunchyroll announced it will screen the movie on November 18 at Anime NYC 2022.

On January 3, 2023, Anime News Network announced that the movie had claimed the top spot for anime movies in its 2022 Mega Poll of readers.

Synopsis

Rin, who now works at a small publisher in Nagoya, gets a text message from Chiaki. Rin tells Chiaki, "I'm in Nagoya now." Yamanashi's tourism promotion organization has put Chiaki in charge of reopening a site that had closed several years ago. Upon hearing this, Rin suggests, "If it's such a large site, you can use it as a campsite." Chiaki decides to do that even though Rin just made a casual suggestion.

Nadeshiko Kakamigahara works at an outdoor store in Tokyo, Aoi Inuyama became an elementary school teacher in Yamanashi, and Ena Saito works at a hair salon in Yokohama.

Chiaki and Rin reunite with Nadeshiko, Aoi, and Ena to launch the campsite development project.

The five assemble in work clothes to mow the grass, hold planning meetings, and build a campsite from square one, in scenes reminiscent of their club days in high school.

Events

• Yamaha Music Retailing Co., Ltd. will be hosting a series of events at 4 of its stores starting July 17, 2021. The first event at the Yamaha Music Nagoya store (Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture) will also feature a mini-live by Eri Sasaki and after talk with composer/arranger Akiyuki Tateyama. A special songbook will be released during the first even on July 28, 2021.

• The start of the film (prior to the opening title sequence) shows the main cast of five still in their high-school years, but after the events of the manga regardless. They camp out during the summer, and Chiaki's hair matches how it would look after chapter 54, while Rin, Nadeshiko and Aoi all wear their hair in a bun each.
